Quick Bites: Chocolate Covered Craisins

Oh the grocery store. They tempt you with tasty items when you walk in, at each end cap and by the register. I'm usually really good; I even avoided Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal yesterday, knowing I would attack that box! It doesn't stand a chance around this gal. But, last week I got sucked in by Chocolate Covered Craisins. Maybe it's because it said "limited edition" on the top I felt the compulsive need to scoop these up immediately, but really it's because I thought the sweet, tart taste of a craisin (a dried cranberry) coupled with the richness of chocolate would be a perfect match. Plus, the nutritional stats were pretty decent!

While the bag says it has four servings, with each serving a 1/4 cup, there's plenty in there! In fact, I just grabbed 5 or 6 after dinner as a treat and was satisfied. This has been going on for quite a while. If you do dare to eat the serving, it's 180 calories, 8 grams of fat (4 saturated), 2 grams of fiber and 2 grams of protein. Not bad right for chocolate? Eating 5 or 6 can't be more than 30 or 40 calories! But most importantly...

the taste!

I am a fan, and would definitely get these again. That being said, some pieces were more chocolatey than others, but almost not in a good way... I didn't get the tartness from the craisin that I love (this gal can sometimes stand at the pantry eating handfuls of craisins. A weird option, I know). And, I'd also LOVE if Ocean Spray made these in dark chocolate instead of milk. Now that would be a killer combination! Can we vote? Get 'em for yourself to decide.

NOW: This Season's Hot Polish

One wonderful gal -- in a nail crisis -- recently asked me what polish colors are perfect for Fall. My response? GOOD QUESTION! Each season, there are certainly "it" colors.

First, are you one of those gals who religiously wears the pale pink Sugar Daddy or Ballet Slippers? I say, break out of that rut! My thoughts on nail polish...

Worse case scenario: you take it off.... or it's only a week or two! Or, try it on your toes. If you're not thrilled, wear flats or boots; it's the perfect time of year anyway. So, go bold... or stay home!

In addition to the perennially classic red, this season's must haves?
  • Brown: Think chocolate on your hands and feet! Yum. This is my current pedi color-of-choice. Try Essie's Little Brown Dress; Chanel Le Vernis in Particuliere or Zoya in Kalista.
  •
    Nars nail polish; Sephora exclusives

  • Grey: Consider your skin tone with this color; the shade really matters! A few options: Sally Hansen in Wet Cement; Zoya in Kelly and Sephora Collection's Gypsy.
  • Navy: A new classic, for clothes and nails! Try OPI's Opening Night (sparkly), NARS Midnight Express (available sephora.com) and Rimmel in Midnight Blue.
  • Camo Green: Test out the military look on your hands and toes! Go for NARS Mash (available sephora.com), China Glaze in Wagon Trail (a green-brown) or Orly Enchanted Green.
  • Purple: go deeper so it's not Easter egg purple, look for hints of grey. Ones to try? Futurist by Perfect Formula, Sally Hansen Insta-Dry polish in Lively Lilac or Mystic Lilac, Cover Girl's Voilet Vision or OPI Swiss Collection in The One to Watch or its Just a Little Dangerous Nail Color (only at Sephora).
  •
    OPI's Glamour Game

  • Gold: why not? Gold jewelry is in, so why not accessorize with gold in other ways? Test out OPI's Glamour Game, NARS Versailles (a champagne gold), China Glaze in Midnight Kiss and Estee Lauder's Extravagant Pearl (a light, glittery gold).

And, want to get creative?
Layer shades for a one-of-a-kind look! For example, polish a red over a black for a dark, sexy red color! The options are endless, and again... not thrilled? Keep nail polish remover handy.

Through a little extra research, must tell you about a delectable site for nail polish fanatics, or wannabes! Visit All Lacquered Up for the latest and greatest in new polish reviews, nail tips and more. There's also a photo gallery so you can see exactly how that bottle will look on your nails. So fun!

Lastly, a little TAGG tip: most Bed, Bath & Beyond's now carry a full line of cosmetics, hair products and more, including nail polish. Bust out one of those 20 percent coupons and score your Essie, Sally Hansen, Cover Girl or other brand at an even better price.

Yours Truly featured in Sun-Sentinel

Last week, I spoke to wonderful Sun-Sentinel reporter, Arlene Satchell, who was looking for locals who utilize social media to access serious deals during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. HELLO, that's me! Not only do I like to scout out the deals for myself, I love finding them for you gals! We're all about fashion, deals, food and fun... and deals are seriously important, right? Who wants to pay full price when you can get a faboo item for less?

So thrilled Arlene included me -- the average gal -- in the story! I included it below, and you can access the full story here.

Alyson Seligman, of Palm Beach Gardens, who runs The Average Girl's Guide blog has definitely noticed an uptick in retailers' use of Facebook and Twitter this year as they seek to reach their target demographics.

Seligman typically scours these social networking sites for deals she can post on her blog.

This year, in addition to pre-Black Friday and Black Friday deals and discounts, retailers are also posting holiday store hours on these sites, Seligman said.

For heavy social media users like Seligman, getting shopping deals through a platform like Facebook, where they already tend to look for other key information, is like having "one-stop access to every facet of your life."

Although not a fan of Black Friday brick-and-mortar shopping, Seligman, 30, is advising shoppers to research social networking sites for both in-store and online holiday deals.

More retailers than ever will be touting offers there.

"Social media is a smart way to do this and if a retailer isn't using it, they're missing the boat," Seligman said.

Recipe: Good Eats Roast Turkey

Are you a holiday procrastinator like me? If you are, I must share with you a turkey recipe for this Thanksgiving that consistently gets rave reviews. It also looks a little time-consuming for us last-minute meal planners, but hey, perfection doesn't come without sacrifice, right?

I have to admit that I've never cooked a turkey on my own. While I'm a little nervous, I feel that I'm now 30 -- an official adult, right? -- so I need to just go for it. Well, that and it doesn't seem like I have a choice!

The turkey recipe is the Good Eats Roast Turkey by Food Network scientist/chef mastermind, Alton Brown. You can access the recipe here, or print it below. If you have some turkey cooking tips, I'd be so grateful if you shared them in the comment section below so me and all the fellow average gals out there can have the good fortunate on your kitchen prowess. Enjoy your turkey day!

Ingredients
1 (14 to 16 pound) frozen young turkey

For the brine:
1 cup kosher salt
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1 gallon vegetable stock
1 tablespoon black peppercorns
1 1/2 teaspoons allspice berries
1 1/2 teaspoons chopped candied ginger
1 gallon heavily iced water

For the aromatics:
1 red apple, sliced
1/2 onion, sliced
1 cinnamon stick
1 cup water
4 sprigs rosemary
6 leaves sage
Canola oil

Directions
(Click here to see how it's done.)

2 to 3 days before roasting:
Begin thawing the turkey in the refrigerator or in a cooler kept at 38 degrees F.

Combine the vegetable stock, salt, brown sugar, peppercorns, allspice berries, and candied ginger in a large stockpot over medium-high heat. Stir occasionally to dissolve solids and bring to a boil. Then remove the brine from the heat, cool to room temperature, and refrigerate.

Early on the day or the night before you'd like to eat:

Combine the brine, water and ice in the 5-gallon bucket. Place the thawed turkey (with innards removed) breast side down in brine. If necessary, weigh down the bird to ensure it is fully immersed, cover, and refrigerate or set in cool area for 8 to 16 hours, turning the bird once half way through brining.

Preheat the oven to 500 degrees F. Remove the bird from brine and rinse inside and out with cold water. Discard the brine.

Place the bird on roasting rack inside a half sheet pan and pat dry with paper towels.

Combine the apple, onion, cinnamon stick, and 1 cup of water in a microwave safe dish and microwave on high for 5 minutes. Add steeped aromatics to the turkey's cavity along with the rosemary and sage. Tuck the wings underneath the bird and coat the skin liberally with canola oil.

Roast the turkey on lowest level of the oven at 500 degrees F for 30 minutes. Insert a probe thermometer into thickest part of the breast and reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees F. Set the thermometer alarm (if available) to 161 degrees F. A 14 to 16 pound bird should require a total of 2 to 2 1/2 hours of roasting. Let the turkey rest, loosely covered with foil or a large mixing bowl for 15 minutes before carving.

9 Under $100: Little Black Dress

You know it, you love it. It's the LBD (little black dress)! If you're looking for a new option this holiday season, test out one of those hot numbers. Best of all, they're all under $100!

This year, try to think outside your comfort zone when you're on the dress prowl. Don't usually do a one shoulder or something with a more open back? Give it a try. All you've committed to is two minutes in the fitting room. No biggie there. And, need a dress that you can get serious mileage out of? Make sure it's hot and that you feel fabulous, but at the same time not too distinctive. Go for a classic look that can be transformed with jewelry, belts, heels and more. No one will know it's the same dress. Also use these accessories to personalize your dress. Add bold earrings, a chunky necklace. bright-red heels, you name it. There's no rules when it comes to your LBD. Just have fun with it!

For the best fit, opt for a V-neck (though not too low) if you have a bigger chest; surprisingly, a high collar actually makes your chest, and all of you, bigger than you want. Want to hide a few lbs around your mid-section? Opt for an wide-band, empire waist that slightly cinches you at your skinniest part and then floats away from your body. Slim your legs by adding black tights or ones with a slight elongating pattern. It looks chic and it's totally slimming.

Hope you find exactly what you're looking for this holiday season. Cheers!

5 Must Haves: For a Nourished Diet

Shannah Messinger
5 Must Haves... for a Nourished Diet

Meet Shannah. Enviably healthy, gorgeous, sweet, you name it. We've known each other since college, where one summer we were roomates and parters-in-crime. I've always admired how much she likes to exercise; she even taught classes! We should all learn from her. And, through keeping in touch with her via Facebook, I know that even while she now lives in NY, she likes to keep an herb and plant garden when it's warm enough, cook fantastically delicious meals and she's still exercising up a storm. So when I learned that she started a blog of her own, called Little Earth Mama's Kitchen, imparting yummy recipes, sharing healthy tips and more, I just had to share with you. I've read all of her posts... they're worth a few minutes of your time. Promise.

Here, in her words, are her 5 must haves for a nourishing diet.

Proper hydration
We’ve all heard it before…drink eight, 8 oz. glasses of water each day. Sounds simple, right? It should be, but we just aren’t doing it. We get so wrapped up in our work and activities that we often neglect our need for hydration. The best way to see if you are properly hydrated is to... check your urine. The darker it is, the more dehydrated you are. Some tips to get that water down: keep a water bottle on your desk or in your bag, and try drinking one glass every hour. By the end of an eight hour work day, you’ll have 8 glasses down. You can also drink herbal teas or flavor your water with some lemon juice, orange juice, or my favorite…cucumber slices.
TAGG tip: another plus? The more h2o you drink, the more full you feel and the less you eat. Perk! Get this fab Bobble water bottle so you not only look stylish, but you can make all water purified and ready for you on-the-go!

Unprocessed food
Another saying we are all familiar with is, ‘You are what you eat.'  By eating processed food, you are feeding your body unnecessary chemicals. Do yourself a favor and toss any low-fat or low-sugar foods, which are loaded with processed ingredients. Opt for smaller amounts of full-fat wholesome ingredients. They taste better and are more nutritious than the fake stuff. Go ahead and use that butter, just in moderation.
TAGG tip: are you saying hell no because it's more calories? You don't have to get rid of everything cold turkey. Try one change at a time.

 Cut the salt
Do you ever feel bloated after eating a really salty meal? You aren’t imagining things. Salt increases fluid retention. It also raises blood pressure. Next time you're cooking a meal, skip the salt and try experimenting with different seasonings such as fresh or dry herbs (my favorite are thyme, basil, and parsley), garlic, spices, or even hot sauce. Next time you are in the grocery store, stop off in the spice aisle to check out all of the options.

A variety of fruits and veggies
Fruits and vegetables are loaded with vitamins, antioxidants, fiber and water. Remember, the more colorful fruits and vegetables you have in your diet, the better. Whether you eat them raw, roasted, or steamed, try to aim for five servings of fruit and two servings of vegetables a day. And, go for organic whenever possible.
TAGG tip: Roasting (and grilling!) is the best. Just heat your oven to 400 degrees, drizzle some olive oil and seasonings on your broccoli, cauliflower, etc., and stick it in the oven for 25-30 minutes (give or take, depends on veggie size).

Calcium and iron rich foods
Calcium and iron help to keep your bones strong and your immune system at optimum function. Calcium rich foods include spinach, green leafy vegetables, milk, yogurt, cheese, black eyed beans, sardines, papaya, oranges, and tahini. Some iron rich foods include leafy green vegetables, eggs, lentils, chickpeas, cashews, and tofu.

NOW: Shop smart

All you can think about is shopping for the holidays, right? Well, you're not the only one: the average person expects to spend $688.87 on holiday-related items this season! Wowza, that's definitely more than my budget this year.

Personally, I don't think Black Friday is the best time to go shopping -- those crowds, the insanity, eek -- because unless you're out at 3 am to get one of three big-screen TVs available, you most likely can get the similar deals by just being a smart shopper all-year-round. If you must however, check out http://www.theblackfriday.com/. Deals for "Cyber Monday," the new shopping "holiday" the Monday after Thanksgiving, can be found at http://www.cybermonday.com/.

Want to shop smart? Take this advice:
- Register for ShopItToMe: it's a free, online personal shopper! I've been a fan for 2+ years and it has more than three million subscribers. Just tell the site your favorite stores and brands, and voila, you get a daily email telling you what's on sale. Do this instead of visiting a million web sites each day scouring for the best price. Saves tons of time and money.

- Shop online through Ebates: hope you're already doing this! I've made $30 this Fall just shopping like I normally do; only exception is that I click first through Ebates, a portal site that gives you a percentage back (anywhere from 2-15 percent!) on more than 1,200 retailers. Best of all, you get $5 after you make your first purchase and Ebates often has coupon codes to add to your savings. This holiday, buying online (especially since many sites offer free shipping at lower price points than usual) can add up to savings and less hassle.

- Register for online sites to save: You can score designer clothes, discounts to restaurants, sporting events, yoga classes and way more just by accessing a few key sites. Head to Gilt, Swirl, Rue La La, Zulily (perfect for kids, moms and babes), Beyond the Rack, Ideeli and Jasmere (new; awesome for mostly food and other great gift items) for the best sample sales. And, do not forget about Groupon, the best way to get up to 90 percent off local finds in your area.

- Make a list and stick to it. Decide who you need to buy for and how much you plan to spend; try to have some ideas in advance so you don't buy needless items. Keep receipts so you can return if you find something else or the same item at a better price.

- Shop before the big sales: Many stores will give you the price difference if an item goes on sale within a few days of purchase, both apparel and electronics. Double check before you buy, though; it sometimes does not apply to Black Friday specials.

- Gift exchanges with friends and fam: Stick to a small amount, $10 or $20, and do a "Secret Santa" type exchange where everyone secretly picks someones name out of a hat and buys that person a gift. This way each person gets one nicer gift instead of six kind of crappy ones.

- Get rid of gift certificates you don't like: check out Card Pool, a site that buys your gift cards back from you for a pretty good percentage. If you don't like what you have, don't force yourself to buy something or hold on to it for so long it's worth nothing. If it's a store that you can't even buy a gift for someone in, take advantage of Card Pool and get cash for that piece of plastic wasting space.

- In 2011, start thinking about next year: want to do way better next year and find the perfect gift? Don't wait until now! If you're like me, what you're looking for is never there for us last-minute shoppers. You're way better off if you're keeping your eyes open all-year long.

- And, of course, stay connected to The Average Girl's Guide: What better way to learn about the latest fashion and products, discounts and deals, and more, right? Keep it right here, yo!

Happy savvy shopping!

Quick Bites: Smokehouse Almonds

As everyone already knows, this average gal has a serious almond infatuation. Currently, I have about five varieties in the pantry and I wrote a few months back about Emerald's Cocoa Roast almonds that provide a chocolatey goodness to one of the best nuts out there.

Now, I must share with you smokehouse almonds by Blue Diamond. If you have an addictive personality, best to stay away. It's pretty much impossible for me to eat just two or three and I'm probably not the only one... they're the most popular brand by Blue Diamond. They have a strong, slightly salty and almost-tangy flavor that makes you want to keep popping them in your mouth.

What's nice is that you can eat 28 of these yummy puppies for 170 calories, 16 grams of fat, 3 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein. I know you're slightly alarmed by the fat content, however it's only 1 gram saturated; it's the good-for-you kind. Everyone needs a little fat in their diet and best to get it from a nutritional source like almonds instead of fatty ice cream. And, once you taste these, you might actually be reaching for these instead of something less healthy. Plus, you don't need to have 28 just because that's a serving. Often I'll take out about 10 and be happy with that. With that strong flavor on your tongue, it really satisfies a craving.

You can find these just about everywhere; even in many drugstores. Are you a fan?

9 Under $100: Leopard Print

Leopard print is seriously hot this year, but honestly, it's hot almost every year. Here, we're providing nine ways to integrate this perennial favorite into your daily wardrobe without breaking the bank. Keep in mind, it can be challenging. There's nothing worse than a bad leopard pattern. Ruins the look and makes it look cheap, sometimes even when it's not!

Not comfortable with doing this bold look? Wear it in the form of a cami underneath a solid-color cardigan or jacket; wear a bracelet to liven up a look (leopard goes with any color!); even spice up your undergarments... kind of exciting knowing what's underneath that traditional work look! You don't have to be afraid to wear leopard to the office, though. Depending on your profession, recognize you need to tone down your other items to make it work, however definitely go for a pencil skirt, a cardigan or sweater, or even leopard shoes! Every time I wear my leopard platform peep-toe heels, I get a ton of compliments. Best of all, they go with everything. Next up, I want leopard flats!

Divine Deal: Free labels, calendars & much more

While The Average Girl's Guide is not exclusively about deals and discounts --- we're full service baby! fashion, food, fun, you name it -- this is a deal I had to share.

Are you familiar with VistaPrint? It's an online printing site that frequently has deals too good to pass up. I scored business cards for this blog (yay!) for the small price of upgraded paper and shipping.

Right now, there's a whole bunch of deals worth sharing! You can get 140 address labels for FREE. Lots of cute styles to choose from. And, think outside the box. Not only can you make return address labels, consider making gift tags (TO:/FROM:), labels with your kiddies names on it for school and art supplies, etc. The possibilities are endless! If you need them ASAP, shipping for $3.62 guarantees you'll get them in seven days.

There's also two great gift ideas: free photo calendar where you can add up to 13 pictures, just pay processing and shipping. Or, how about a free photo flip book? Again, just pay processing and shipping.

Check out the site; you can often get free labeled shirts, car decals, business cards (or mommy cards!), postcards and more.

5 Must Haves: For a Stylish Mom on the Go

5 Must Haves... for a Stylish Mom on the Go!
Meet Brianna. A gorgeous, adorable, sweet, funny, smart and pretty sassy gal... oh, and a mom of a one-year old little cutie. As a stay-at-home mom (a "sahm" for those who like the lingo), she's constantly on the go with her girl yet is always looking totally put together. Personally, I'm impressed! As a mom of an almost one-year old (who hardly naps), I don't know how she does it. I have a hard time getting a shower in when it's just me and my cupcake!

Since Brianna can keep it together, it's a must that she share with us her secrets to looking good. If you're not a mom, share this list with girlfriends that are... they'll thank you!

In her words, here are Brianna's five-must haves for a stylish mom on the go:

Fabulous Flats
Before I was a mama I would throw on heels all the time: during the day, out to dinner, Sunday brunch, for just about anything. But now that I'm carrying around an extra 20 pounds of a delicious little girl, it just seems impractical. So, they key is to find good-looking flats. These by Sam Edelman make my outfit. They're comfortable but so stylish and have a bit of sparkle that make any outfit pop.  Being a new mom or even a veteran, these flats will do any outfit all the justice you and your stylish self deserve... and they're currently on sale!
TAGG tip: quantities are limited of these flats, so look for any flats with embellishments, and def. consider silver the perfect neutral for a flat. It goes with everything.

Diaper bag
Your diaper bag is essentially going to be the only bag you carry for at least a year after your baby is born, so having a stylish one is well worth the price. I am in love with the Timi & Leslie Marie Antoinette Diaper Bag. It comes in black, bronze and silver and is made out of a lightweight quilted nylon. It comes with a cross body adjustable strap to make carrying the bag and baby easier and it's way easier when attaching it to your stroller. There's also a changing pad (a necessity), an insulated bottle tote (for bottles on the run), two big side pockets so you don't have to worry about spills, six interior pockets (we all know digging through a diaper bag for a cell or keys while holding a baby isn't fun). And, if that's not enough it has a cute clutch for you inside too!!! The bag costs $120.99, which is a little pricey if you're on a budget but there's free shipping (yay!) and this is as an investment; it's something you will wear EVERYDAY... it's worth every penny!
TAGG tip: adoring this bag, and it's something you can use even sans baby if you don't feel like switching from a regular bag to diaper bag. Avoid baby patterns; you want something you can walk into Bloomies or Saks in and feel good. We say YES!

Hair ties
Any new mama knows that having a little one means that your hair will be pulled if you are wearing it down. These AMAZING rhinestone hair ties ($4.80 for six colors...cant beat it!) will make you love throwing your hair back so you can enjoy your little bundle without getting yanked on.  With all the colors, you can coordinate with any outfit...even if you have to change after a spit up!

Stroller Pads/Liners
Getting a great stroller is key, but even more important is the pad you get to personalize your stroller... and keep your big purchase clean. Stroller pads are also available as car seat covers and can really save you a lot of time if your munchkin has a bad accident or gets food all over the seat or stroller. It's not a fun chore to wash those seats so throw a stylish pad on top and not only will it make your life easier, it will make your seat look fabulous too!
Brianna's recommended boutique: http://www.purejoycollection.com/; she loves the black and pink hearts style ($65.95).
TAGG tip: as tempted as you are to buy a gender-specific color for your stroller or car seat, invest in the best you can and go neutral! This is a fun way to add personality for each child.

And, of course... a stylish little one
A stylish little one is a must have for a stylish mama... they practically go hand in hand! Now that I have a little one I find more joy in shopping for her than I do for myself; I love dressing her up. But, dressing your child does not have to break the bank. Target, Babies R Us, H&M and the Baby Gap sale rack are my top picks. They always have fun pieces for boys and girls that will make that baby on your hip just as stylish as their stylish mama!

One option: If you're a new mom looking for a stylish jacket for your babe, you must check out this moto jacket from Baby Gap, on sale for just $18.99! It's available online up to 12 months, and the stores often have more sizes available. Obsessed.

Style Inspiration for Fall

Thank you J. Crew (and its president/past creative director, Jenna Lyons) for the most inspiring Fall looks. This is a big reminder from last weekend's "weekend chic" post that your outfits don't have to match, they just have to go. Being honest, I have a serious girl crush on every gal pictured.

And, check out these looks regardless of age. As a corporate business professional and new biz owner in my other life, I can't get away with all the looks a 20-something might, but I can certainly integrate pieces and looks that make me a little more fashion-forward... instead of backward.

Use this as a bit of Fall inspiration, making a list of new fashion styles to try. Start here:
- buy fun colored tights and socks (the socks with heels are totally growing on me!)
- wear tights with open-toe shoes and/or shorts
- cuff your jeans and mix them with anything you can find
- wear comfy but stylish heels or wedges on the weekend... just because
- add belts to unexpected looks, like frilly dresses and skirts
- you don't have to wear a suit to look polished. Jackets and cardigans with blouses and bold jewelry look much more modern.

Quick Bites: Better-for-you Cupcakes

I'd venture to guess that about 95% of women (and really, mankind) loves a chocolate cupcake. I mean, really what's not to like? Chocolate? Yum. Cupcakes? Yum. However, the one "thing" that doesn't love a chocolate cupcake? My hips. They hate them.

Since I have a serious sweet tooth, I'm constantly on the hunt to make decadent food a little healthier.. while keeping the flavor. Thanks to one of my favorite gals on earth, Lisa Lillien aka The Hungry Girl, I have to share with you a quick-fix recipe to make flavorful, relatively guilt-free chocolate muffins. And, if you don't know the Hungry Girl, you MUST read my very first blog post dedicated just to her.

OK, now what you've been waiting for... (don't worry, this won't take long!):

Ingredients:
- 1 18.25 box of a moist-style chocolate cake mix; any kind you like
- 1 can of pumpkin (best brand: Libby's)

Directions:
- Mix ingredients (best with a hand mixer). It will seem a little dry but it's OK. No, you don't need the oil, butter, eggs, fat. Just these two ingredients.  Promise. Pinky swear. It will taste good.
- Spoon into muffin tins; I prefer going for the 36 mini muffins.
- Cook according to directions on cake box.
- Allow to cool.

Ta-da! Delicious and much healthier for you than the original version. Try it and let all the gals out there know what you think!

Fab Find: Sparkly Attire for Under $100

I should say that the holidays make me want to wear fun sparkly items, but truth be told, who doesn't want to feel sparkly and gorgeous all-year-round? Enter awesome shops who are carrying so many fun, embellished items it makes this gal smile from ear to ear. And, it's not just for a big night out. Some items included below are perfect for daytime. Or, take a dressy skirt or dress and pair it with a more casual cardigan or chunky sweater and flats for a fun and flirty afternoon out.

While we love this look, it's not something we typically invest in. We believe in investing in jeans, quality shoes, handbags, and accessories like nice jewelry and scarves. Important note: closely check out your find before buying. Be sure the sequins or detailing is solidly placed and remember that it's going to require some special cleaning.

So check out these items and remember, a little glitz and glam does a body good!

Now: Look Weekend Chic

Just put together a stylish outfit that's perfect for a gal on-the-go. Remember, it's about putting together items that go together, not about being matchy-matchy.

What's the worse-case scenario? Tomorrow you're in a new outfit anyway.

Get rid of that fear of outfit commitment and start having fun in that wardrobe you created!

Fab Find: Gameday Bangles

Happy Friday! Two very important things:
1. Even if you don't like football, do not stop reading this post. You'll be mad at yourself later.
2. It's Friday, which means it's almost a weekend filled with football (like it or not!). While I'm a big fan (GO GATORS), a lot of what I like is taking pride in my teams and spending time with family rooting on our favorites -- or hoping a hated team loses!

And - DUH! - the chance to dress in fun, cute spirited clothes. And, accessories!

Assuming, you have the outfit picked out already, enter: Gameday Bangles.
A-DORE! While they're perfect to add style to your casual gameday outfit, I totally want these in other colors to wear out. The owner of Gameday Bangles, a totally adorable and awesome red-head named Caro, has a whole slew of colors you can mix and match up your arm to show team love or just plain fabulousness. Made with ribbon that covers a bangle, they are available in orange, royal blue, navy blue, purple, maroon/burgundy/garnet (depending on team preference!), red, yellow-gold, black and pink. Most come in a polka-dot, too, and the orange and black come in gingham.

Would love adding two or three chunky ones up my arm to spice up a black dress, or even polka-dot to add a little punch to a solid color tee.

Plus, and this is a huge one: since they're made of ribbon, they don't make noise when wearing multiples. One of my pet peeves/aggravations of loading bangles up the arm!

The chunky ones are $6 each or just 2 for $10; the skinnies, available in orange and blue (for now), are $3 each or 2 for $5, and the skinny with knots is $4. If you buy one of the pink polka dot, a percentage goes to support breast cancer research. To purchase, or to see more samples, visit the Gameday Bangles Facebook page.

What's awesome is that not only are you getting a custom, handmade bracelet, you're supporting a fellow fab gal starting a new business. So, show her some love and look good while doing it!

A happy Friday, indeed.
