Now: Look Gorgeous in Photos

Tomorrow, an expert Palm Beach-based photographer is going to give you the ultimate tips to take a perfect photo. Just wait, it's going to transform how you capture your life. In the interim, wanted to give you tips to make yourself look your best in photos! Who doesn't want that?

forward positioning, hand on the hip,
fresh make up! (I'm 2nd from left)

Get ready to strut your stuff this weekend and strike a pose, hot stuff.

What to do:
General positioning: Angle yourself at the camera and lean slightly forward with your weight on the forward foot, which instantly elongates the neck. It doesn't look good if you stand straight on and/or lean away. Trust us; try both in the mirror and see for yourself.
    With the hubs
    on vacay!

  • Sitting: don't sit cross legged with your back against the chair (makes legs look abnormally large). Instead sit at the edge of the seat with good posture. 10 lbs, gone!
  • Hand on the hip: it's almost become a joke with some friends, but that hand on the hip really helps eliminate that ugly fat upper arm syndrome that happens on even the twiggiest gals.
  • Don't compensate for others: whether you're shorter or taller than others in the pic with you, don't change your stance. I've been guilty of this. I slightly bend down or subconsciously round my shoulders to be at the same height as others. No, no. Be proud your height, regardless of how much of it you have!
  • Be aggressive: Tell the photographer what you want! It's best if the photographer is slightly higher than you, or at least the same height. If you're standing and they're sitting; make 'em stand up. It's so much more flattering.
  • Keep make-up fresh: If you're going to an event where you know they'll be vying for a photo, touch up face with a new coat of lipstick, a swipe of blush, some powder to minimize shine and a fresh coat of mascara to make your eyes pop. The extra two minutes will not only leave you feeling good, it will really show when the flash pops.

  • Grab some props: are you with a bunch of friends? Try to avoid a static pose. Love this bridal shower photo of gals holding parasols. See what's around you and go for it!

And, most important of all:
  • Relax, and think happy thoughts: photos don't hide anything! Don't stress about whether or not you're going to look good.... over-thinking comes across on your face. It helps if you smile with your eyes; your whole face lights up!

I totally agree with all of these. Some added tips for gals who don't want to carry too much makeup for touch ups, those oil blotting sheets work wonders. Then all you really need is some lipstick/gloss. The blotting sheets will eliminate oil, without affecting your makeup. Score! (I'm the kind of gal that carries both touch up makeup, and blotting sheets...)

Also, a very good tip, smile with your eyes. Make sure you look happy all over your face, not just having your lips curling up (might otherwise look like a snarl!)

Great tips, Alyson. Thanks for sharing!

P.S. There are also blotting sheets available at Sally Beauty Supply that have powder and blush as part of them. So, as you blot away shine, it also retouches your powder and blush. Now all you really need is your lipgloss, and it all fits in your party clutch!

    OK, I won't comment hog.
